The cultural heritage of Nepal this Himalayan kingdom, is the result of centuries of changes and contacts with India and Tibet. Twenty scholars, mostly French and German, analyse different topics of the history and anthropology of Nepal - one of the richest field of research in South Asia. They powerfully demonstrate the relevance to joint historical and anthropological approaches of this multi-cultural kingdom. They also question the issues of tradition and modernity. It is true that the present social fabric of the Nepalese life is still determined by old religious ideas. But, as in the past, this tradition itself is being continually refined in light of changing contexts.
