This book was written when the fog of secrecy was cleared by the march of military boots of the English and much was written and analysed about Lasha. With Lhasa, however, this book has little to do. Its intention to illustrate, to some extent, the sequence of explorations in that great wilderness of story and inhospitable altitudes for beyond Lhasa, and may, it is hoped, serve as a small tribute to the memory of great achievements.
